NSC 163986 - Introduction
1-Cyclohexyl-2-morpholinoethylcarbodiimide (CMCI) is an organic compound with the chemical structure Cyclohexyl-3-(2-(4-morpholinyl)ethyl)carbodiimide. It is a colorless to pale yellow crystalline solid, soluble in many organic solvents, such as ethanol and dimethylformamide.
CMCI is mainly used in the field of organic synthesis. It is an active amide compound capable of reacting with a carboxylic acid to form an amide bond. Therefore, it is commonly used in the chemical modification of proteins and peptides, the synthesis of drugs and the synthesis of bioactive molecules. In addition, CMCI can also be used as a catalyst for the preparation of amide polymers and chemical reactions.
The method of preparing CMCI is usually prepared by the reaction of carbodiimides. A common method is the condensation reaction of N-cyclohexyl-3-morpholineacetic acid (N-Cyclohexyl-3-morpholinolpropanoic) with 1-acyl-2, 5-morpholinedione (1-Acyl-2,5-dimethylpiperazine) in the presence of a base.
Regarding the safety information of CMCI, it is an irritating compound that has an irritating effect on the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. Appropriate protective equipment, such as gloves, safety glasses and face shields, should be worn during use. Avoid prolonged contact with the skin and make sure to use it in a well-ventilated place. In case of accidental contact, rinse the skin immediately with plenty of water and seek medical treatment.
